Matcha tea is becoming very popular due to its health benefits and here at Tea from the Manor we can’t get enough!
So what is matcha tea?
It’s a form of green tea and basically means ‘powdered tea’. When looking at the antioxidants in matcha tea compared to green tea, one cup of matcha tea is equivalent to ten cups of ordinary green tea. The reason this is, is a lot of the antioxidants in your standard green tea are left in the leaf; there is only so much hot water can do in extracting all the goodness from the tea. Whereas with matcha tea you are drinking the whole tea leaf and therefore gaining all the nutrients and vitamins normally left in your tea strainer. As you are consuming the whole tea leaf you also get a boost from the caffeine, sources say, the same amount as in a cup of coffee!
Pure matcha tea has a very strong taste, such as spinach or even grass like to some palates. High quality matcha tea is always best to buy. A red flag should be raised if the price is very low as it could be a powdered mix, combining the tea with powdered milk or sugar.
Chefs are also using matcha tea in their recipes for muffins, cakes and rice. You can find so many different recipes online, if you do try any with Tea from the Manor matcha tea tag us on social media and let us know!
